This is one of my favorite off season trails. I don't usually hike it in the summer because it is too crowded. It departs from
Colorado River trail head on Trial Ridge Road about twelve miles in from the Grand Lake entrance to the park. Either snowshoes
or cross country skies are necessary for both fall and spring. The trail follows the head waters of the Colorado River all the
way to a trail head on the west side. In the spring there are sections of open water with snow piled high on the banks. Fall is
also very interesting with opportunities to see lots of wild life getting ready for the long winter.
